What columns does my file need?

One row per worker. Required: gender (F/M, or female/male; anything else is counted separately and left out of gaps) and base_pay (gross annual basic pay). Optional: variable_pay (bonuses, overtime, allowances and benefits in kind for the year), hours (hours paid in the year; strongly recommended for part-time staff) and category (your category of workers). Commas, semicolons or tabs, and decimal commas, all work.

How we calculate

  • Pay gap = (men's average − women's average) ÷ men's average × 100 (Art. 3(1)(c)). Positive means men are paid more.
  • Pay level is total pay (basic + variable) per hour paid when you give hours, otherwise annual pay (Art. 3(1)(b)).
  • Variable-pay gaps compare workers who received variable pay only.
  • Quartiles rank women and men by hourly total pay into four equal groups.
  • A category is flagged when its mean gap is 5% or more in either direction. The flag is a prompt to check for objective justification, not a finding.
  • Categories with fewer than 4 women or 4 men are marked "small group": publishing them could identify people.
  • National rules can differ: Finland expresses the gap as a ratio, and Lithuania publishes groups only with at least 4 men and 4 women.
